Located in Ventura County, California, Oak Park is an unincorporated community.  Oak Park is home to about 14,500 residents in over 5000 homes, apartments, and condos. Oak Park offers a rare combination of suburban life, access to natural attractions, and easy access to Los Angeles.  Oak Park is bordered by Westlake Village, Agoura Hills and Thousand Oaks.

The Oak Park area has been inhabited by people since around 5500 BC.  It was later part of Rancho Simi in the 1700’s.  Oak Park’s modern  community origins can be traced back to post WWII, when Louis Boyar, who built homes for defense workers, decided to work with developers S. Mark Taper and Ben Weinberg to create a new community south of LA. The first development was on 3375 acres of bean farmland.  Then in 1950 they built a new community of 17,500 homes.

Shopping & Dining

Oak Park offers residents plenty of options for shopping and dining within the community. For a great selection of women’s fashion, there’s Fashion Oaks that offers everything from camisoles, to workout and yoga pants. Goodwill Donation Center and Bookstore is a great place to find quality used items and apparel.  Other stores include Gotta Have It Clothing Boutique, Trends Boutique, and Treasured Memories.

Dining options abound in Oak Park. On the Thirty is a perfect place for wine, beer and pizza lovers.  They offer 30 boutique California wines by the glass and gourmet pizza. Zen Garden offers Beijing Style Chinese cuisine using only fresh ingredients for healthy cooking. Other great places to dine include The Charhouse BBQ and Grill, Breakfast Café, Margaritas Mexican Grill, Vincitore Italian Restaurant, and many others.

As of 2010 there were 14,266 residents living in Oak Park.  The median income for families is $121,170.

Parks & Recreation

Oak Park offers a great variety of parks, trails, and open spaces for residents to enjoy.  The 10 parks include Chaparral Park, Eagle View Park, Mae Boyar Park, Oak Canyon Community Park, and Oak Park Community Center and Gardens.  There’s also 10 trails which China Flat, Golden Eagle Trail, Medea Creek Trail and Sandstone Hills Trail. Oak Park is also next to the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area.

Education

The Oak Park Unified School District serves the students of Oak Park with 3 elementary schools, 1 middle school, and a high school, along with an alternative school.
