The City of Moorpark is located in Ventura County and home to over 34,000 residents. Moorpark is a rapidly growing city, especially since the late 1970’s.  The area where the city is now located was once inhabited by the Chumash Native American tribe.  Moorpark has the distinction of being one of the first cities in the world to run off nuclear power.  The reactor ran from 1957 to 1964.

Shopping & Dining

Moorpark offers resident a wide range of shopping and dining options.  Store include unique shops like Hearts of Jade, located on High Street in old town Moorpark, which offers home décor and unique gifts.  Department stores such as Target and TJ Maxx offer more mainstream shopping. Other fine stores include Bridge Street Jewelers, Le Bon Garcon candy store, and Dick’s Sporting Goods.

There are also plenty of great places to dine in Moorpark. For some of the best BBQ around, there’s Wood Ranch BBQ & GrillCafe Firenze is the only Italian restaurant and Martini lounge in Moorpark. And for delicious Mexican food, try Lalo's Mexican Food or Don Cuco Mexican Resturant.  Other fine dining includes Michael D's Cafe Breakfast and More, Camille's Sidewalk Café, Cactus Patch Restaurant, and Love Sushi.


As of 2015 there was an estimated 36,104 resident in Moorpark.  There are several large employers including Moorpark Unified School District, PennyMac Loan Services, Moorpark College, and Kavlico.

Parks & Recreation

There is an impressive selection of 19 parks in Moorpark that offer a large variety of amenities such as picnic pavilions, ball fields, soccer fields, and tennis courts.  Some of the parks include Arroyo Vista Community Park, Campus Canyon, Community Center Park, Magnolia Park, Mountain Meadows Park, Veterans Memorial Park, and Walnut Acres Park.

There are also a number of events held in Moorpark throughout the year.  Country Days is a single day event held in September or early October.  In early November there are Civil War reenactments.  There’s also an annual fireworks display on July 3rd.


There are 12 public schools in Moorpark that are directed by the Moorpark Unified School District.  Thos schools include 7 elementary schools such as Arroyo West School , Campus Canyon School, Early Childhood Center, Flory School, Mountain Meadows School, Peach Hill School, and Walnut Canyon School. Middle schools consist of Chaparral Middle School, and Mesa Verde Middle School. There are also 3 high schools - Community High School, Moorpark High School, and The High School at Moorpark College.
